Advanced Torts
Description
The Supreme Court of Canada has recently decided or is about to decide several important tort cases. Topics will depend in part of the judgments the court issues, but will likely include:
New torts
Misfeasance in public office
Privative clauses in tort law
The interaction of the elements in negligence defamation
Evaluation
The course will be evaluated by means of a 100% paper, 6,250 words in length, due on the last day of classes. The paper topic is to be determined by you in consultation with the instructor(s). You will be required to prepare a short proposal (up to 250 words, plus a short bibliography). It will serve as the basis for a preliminary discussion of your paper topic with us, which should take place no later than the end of the first week after Reading Week. During the exam period, students are required to meet with the instructors for a 20-minute discussion of the paper.
